    Kyrgyzstan Visa Policy

The visa policy of Kyrgyzstan mandates visitors to obtain a visa before they can enter the country unless they are from visa-exempt countries or eligible for a visa on arrival at the airport. The government initially flirted with the idea of abolishing the visa-free regime for foreign nationals, but it was retained after deliberations. Today, Kyrgyzstan offers visa exemptions to nationals from 69 different countries. Nationals from these countries who hold valid passports can enter and stay for a number one of days, depending on their nationality. However this list is never the same as more countries may be added or removed in due course.

    Kyrgyzstan Visa-Free Countries

Being a former Soviet satellite state Kyrgyzstan still maintains healthy diplomatic relationships with other post Soviet satellite countries and all of them are included in theri visa free list Added to the list are other countries whose citizens can also visit Kyrgyzstan without visas.

Depending on the visitor's nationality, they can visit and stay in the country for 30-180 days uninterrupted.

While some nationals can visit with valid ID cards, others are expected to have valid ordinary passports before they will be allowed to enter Kyrgyzstan. Short term visitors from visa free countries are only allowed in for business, tourism and transit. They are not allowed to seek employment or study in the country without a consular work or study visa.

Furthermore, some nationals from visa free countries must get a visa on arrival at the port of entry while others can enter without visas or any other travel document.

Note: Holders of Taiwanese passports can get a visa on arrival as long as they have a pre-arranged landing invitation visa.

    Electronic e Visa

Still, in the Kyrgyzstan visa policy, the authorities introduced their electronic visa program in 2017 for short-term visitors from all countries and territories who may apply for tourist, business, or group tourist visas that last for 30 or 90 days. The conditions to get this e visa is that you must arrive through Manas or Osh international airports or through the land crossing with China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, or Uzbekistan.

The application process is done online rather than applying to an embassy or consulate, and it takes only a few days to receive the e-visa. More than 120 countries are on the e-visa list, including countries on the visa-on-arrival list.

Do note that this e visa is strictly for business, tourism and transit and jornfir any other purpose. The application is done online and successful applicants will receive their visas through their email addresses so there is no need to visit the Kyrgyzstan foreign mission. Once the application is approved the visa will be forwarded to the applicant's email address.

Key Travel Information About Kyrgyzstan e Visa

Before you apply for any of the above e-visas, here is some vital information to take note of.

Where To Apply: Unless you are from a country on the Visa on arrival list, you should only apply for the e-visa outside Kyrgyzstan. Interested visitors must have applied for the Visa and received it before boarding a flight to Kyrgyzstan.

Passport: The Passport you use must be valid throughout your stay in the country. If yours will expire during your time in Kyrgyzstan, endeavor to apply for a new passport and then use it to apply for the e-visa. Also, note that the same Passport you used for the e-visa should be the same one you traveled to Kyrgyzstan with. Should you travel with a different passport, you will be denied entry because the e-visa you get is linked to the Passport used.

Do Not Work: To avoid issues with the authorities, do not engage in any economic activity that will earn you a wage during your time in Kyrgyzstan. The e-visa is designed for leisure and noncommercial business trips; working and getting paid with this e-visa is not allowed. If you must work, you should get a work visa instead.

Leave Before Your Visa Expires: It will be in your interest to leave the country before or on the day your Visa expires. To be on the safe side, mark the day your Visa will expire on your calendar and plan your trip to fit into the days given so you can round up your assignment and activities on time. Visitors who stay in Kyrgyzstan on an expired visa will be sanctioned by the government.

Obey The Laws: As a guest in the country, always obey the law and regulations throughout your stay. The immigration officers will ask questions about your trip at the port of entry, and you should provide them with honest answers and present them with your Passport and other necessary documents. Bear in mind that Kyrgyzstan immigration is backed by law to prevent visitors from entering Kyrgyzstan even if they have valid visas but can prove beyond reasonable doubt why they are in the country.

Print Out The Visa: Make sure you print out the visa from your email once you get it and travel with the copy as the border control agents will ask you for it along with your passport. Once you are inside the country, always keep the copy with you anytime you go out in case there is a need to prove that you are in the country legally.

Seeking Extension: If you decide to stay for a few more weeks for whatever reason you may apply to the immigration department for an extension but this must be done before the current visa expires. The officer handling your application will decide how many more days or weeks to give you and the application will attract a fee.

Onward Flight Ticket For Transit Visitor: If you are a transit visitor you must purchase an onward flight ticket for your trip to your next destination before arriving in Kyrgyzstan. If you are not a Citizen of the country you are flying to you may need to show the immigration authorities a valid visa or resident permit.
