      Bahamas Visa Policy

According to the visa policy of the Bahamas, any visitor coming to the Island must obtain a visa before they can visit. Visas can be obtained from any of their diplomatic missions, even a British mission, or online before they can visit the country. This is not the case for all visitors, though, as visitors from visa-exempt countries don’t need visas for short trips.

The Bahamas maintains a visa waiver list of countries and terrorists whose citizens may visit for a short time without visas. Business and tourist trips are visa-free, provided they don’t stay longer than 90 days per visit. The Bahamas also has a special list for official and diplomatic passport holders who may visit for three months without visas, but this is only for selected countries.

      Visa On Arrival

The Bahamas has another category called the visa on arrival visa. Visitors from countries like India with valid visas issued by the US, UK, Canada, or any Schengen country may obtain a 90-day visa on arrival. This visa is activated at the entry point, and the holder can reside on the Island for that long.

As for cruise ships, visitors must obtain entry visas if they are not from any of the visa-exempt countries, and their departure from the Island must also be by cruise ship.

Key Information About Bahamas e Visa

Here is some vital information about the Bahamas e-visa.

Not For Work: This online visa issued to eligible visitors by the Bahamian government should not be used as a work visa to seek or take up employment in the Bahamas. Working in the Bahamas with an e-visa is illegal. If you have secured employment in the Bahamas, submit a work visa application to a foreign mission office.

Not For Transit: the Bahamas is in the Caribbean region and is not an international transit route. So you can’t use this visa for Transit.

Only For Eligible Visitors: Note that some foreigners may not be eligible for e-visas, so to be safe, consult the eligibility list before submitting your application. If you aren’t eligible for this visa, you can still visit The Bahamas for tourism, but you must go through the embassy or consulate abroad.

No Group Visas: e visas are issued individually and not for tourist or business groups. This means each visitor must apply for an individual visa in advance.

Not Extendable: The Bahamian e-visa is not extendable once it is issued. The maximum number of days you can stay is 90 days, after which you must leave. Persons with multiple entry visas can revisit once or twice as long as their visa remains valid, but they cannot stay for more than 90 days. Should your visa expire, you must apply for an extension.

Use the Same Passport: For your trip to the Bahamas, endeavor to use the same passport which you used for the visa application. Your e-visa is linked to the passport, so present the same passport at the entry point to avoid a denial of entry.

Paying The Application Fee: Bear in mind that without paying the application fee, you cannot submit your application form for processing. The application fee is paid with a credit or debit card and is non-refundable. Furthermore, paying this fee is not a certainty that you will get the visa. This fee is merely for application processing, so you need to meet all the requirements to get the visa.

Use Approved Routes: Bahamas is an island nation with many accessible routes, but not all these routes are legal entry points. If you are coming with a cruise ship or any sea vessel, ensure that you access the Island through the legal routes.

Proof of Funds: The border agents will request proof of funds to be sure that you have the financial capacity to sustain yourself during your stay in the country. Note that the minimum daily allowance is never static but changes based on the current economic realities and regulations. Before you make the trip check for the minimum daily expense amount for visitors.

Hotel Reservation: If you don’t have a relative or friend to stay with, you should book a hotel in advance. Hotel rooms can be booked online, or better still; you can book an Airbnb for your stay.

Return Flight Ticket: All visitors are expected to book their return flight ticket to their destination before they even arrive in the Bahamas. Not only is this part of the official travel regulations but booking your return ticket in advance will save you extra costs.

Print Out A Copy: It is advisable to travel with a copy of your visa, as you never know when you may need it while you are inside the Bahamas. However, the immigration officers will request it at the entry point.
